Is there a difference betweem 32 auto ammo and 32 long ammo? Or are they the same caliber?

How many other variations of the 32 is there and is there any difference in the ammo or can any 32 fire any 32 ammo?

No in this case all kinds of different measurements Rim /case /bullet. You can shoot 32 short colt in a fire-arm chambered for the 32 long colt. The 32 S& W will not go in the colt chamber and if you shoot 32 Colt in a chamber for 32 S & W long it may split the colt case.

You can shoot the Colt in the S&W. Being extremely low powered it only slightly swells the case. The Colt ammo is fairly uncommon though since the S&W was more popular.

I have shot the 32 long colt cartridge in an s&w j frame chambered in 32 s&w long.. the colt case will rupture and gas and powder are expelled through the front of the cylinder chamber . do not fire the colt 32 long ammo in a smith 32 long chamber. this is from personal experiance not just an opinion. stay safe, Bob
