Reloading books

My brother is planning to start reloading his AR15 ammo next year and has asked for a book on reloading for Christmas. He shoots in an iron sites high power league, usually 100-600 yards.

Is there any "must have" books on reloading that I can get him?

Are there books specific to military loads since he's also shoots M14s and M1 Gerands?

I appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks!

Richard Lee's Guide to Reloading and the Lyman #48 manual are 2 very good starts.

"The Competitive AR-15" by Glen D. Zediker, might interest your Brother.

Anything by Ken Waters. He has contributed to Handloader magazine for years and has a book called "Pet Loads". This guy walks the walk. If he writes up an article on a given cartridge (and often times he delineates between different guns/types of guns within that cartridge category) you can bet there have been THOUSANDS of rounds put down range in an endeavor to better understand the ballistics involved. You will get MANY different bullet weights and types of powder to choose from. I consider Pet Loads to be, by and large, my reloading bible. You wou.ld be hard pressed to find a better refference.

I like Noslers book because it gives the most accurate load. Also use the Lyman book and found it really good, if you are new to reloading it has some very easy to understand instructions.

    newgunguy,

The Accurate Arms Smokeless Powder reloading manual has a whole section on reloading for NRA Highpower.

I like the Zediker book mentioned by rufe-snow.

    Other selections for reloaders:

    Handloading For Competition Zediker

"This book by Glen Zediker covers every aspect of developing and producing ammunition for High Power, Silhouette, and serious varmint hunting. Tools, methods, and processes for reloading are examined along with proven loads for all popular competitive cartridges. A special chapter on Long Range Shooting by Scott Medesha is included. Bullet selection and both sides of the bullet coating question are covered in depth. Over 450 pages with over 350 photos, charts, graphs, and illustrations. This is a high quality book packed full of information. You will love this book!"

    Understanding Ballistics Robert Rinker

"This revised edition of the much acclaimed Understanding Ballistics , written by Robert Rinker, is expanded from 270 to 430 pages. The text has been improved and broadened with up-to-date information. Included are explanations of terminal ballistics, wind deflection, trajectory, ballistic co-efficients, velocity and drag and much more. The revised edition contains more formulas, more detailed examples, more charts and sketches and more technical details. The text is written in a clear understandable fashion by a shooter who knows shooters. The mathematical equations are provided, but the text is written so the reader can get the information without doing the math if he wishes. Soft cover."

Both are available through Sinclair International:
