Has anyone used the Hicks Accurizer for the Ruger #1? I have a few #1s and am interested in buying one if it provides the accuracy improvement promised and if it remains constant.

Can anyone tell me or may know the production numbers for a Ruger #1 in 300 H&H ??? The weapon Serial # is 132-88866 and I believe it was produced in April 1990.

Came across a #1 with a red butt pad and the barrel is marked "7mm Rem. Express or .280 Rem.". Is this marking a transitional thing when the round was renamed and is it a rarity? I have seen a lot of rifles chambered in .280, but have never seen the barrels marked in such a manner. I know 7mm Rem Express is the same thing, just curios.[?]

Remington changed the name in 1979 for marketing reasons then in 1980 changed it back due to confusion of 7mm mag

Never heard of that dual marking. Whether or not it was rare, and if so, what value that might impart, I have no idea.
I'd sure hang on to it until I found out!

    heliman,

I personally have never seen that marking on an original Ruger #1 barrel. As odd as the marking sounds it doesn't mean that hasn't been done. A couple of things that may have taken place:

The original barrel was replaced and the new one marked as you see it now.

The original barrel was re-bored and then re-marked as you see it now.

It could help if you were able to post some good photos of the barrel on the rifle. One of the Ruger experts might recognize if the contour or rib or some other feature was original or aftermarket.

Failing any recognition or if you decide to expedite the identification process, you could call Ruger and ask for some of their 'expert' help.

Post some photos if you can and Good Luck!

    Best.

    Nononsnse,
By this time next week I will have the rifle if it hasn't been sold by then. The barrel does have the Ruger trademark scroll on the barrel in the normal place. We shall see, when we get the rifle.

I haven't seen a #1 marked that way, but some of the M77 guns were DEFENITLY marked as such. Serial number range 74-78508 to 75-86019 in the M77, mid 1980 to late 1981 SN dates, that would fall in-line with savage170's info.

So if the #1 SN dates to '80-'81 very well could be, and probably is.

they are not real rare but only a 100 or so were made in that caliber. some are marked like yours, some with 280. see reference of ruger firearms by hiddleson page 272

Well, went to the gunshow where I saw the .280. The vendor sold it last night on {elsewhere} for $900+. 2 weeks ago, I could have had it for $550. Oh well, you snooze, you lose.[:(]
