Would one you good people let me know the age of my Smith & Wesson Model 41? It is s/n 14323 and has been in the family since the 70's. It has the muzzle brake, firing pin indicator and I also have 2) 3-piece external weights for it. Finish of the bluing is about 85% or better and the grips look 95%.

If you care to comment on the value, I would appreciate that as well!

Thanks for your help!

    Gun was manf.in 1954. You may find that the target weights are worth more than the gun itself.It will only go up in value,hang on to it. [8D] [^]

    All early S & W autos, circa 1954-1970. Were serialized together, according to my reference. S N's ranged between 1001 and 115,000 during that time span.

    My WAG would put the production of your 41, in the late 50's.

    According to the S & W book, production of the 41, started in 1957.

    My S&W book (Standard Catalog of S&W 2nd Edition) depends on which page look it up on.[:D]Page 296 says 1954,page 219 says production was moved from Springfield,Mass.to Holton Me,1957 to date.[:)]

    Last sentence left side of page 219, middle of page. "Produced 1957-Date.", i.e. production of the Model 41 started in 1957,it was still in production when the Second Edition of "The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" was published.

    Hi, Guys;

    I finally spoke with Roy Jinks at S&W. He says my Model 41 was made in late 1958 or early 1959. He also told me that while 1954 was the first year for similar autos to be made there, 1957 was indeed the first year of manufacture for the Model 41.

    Thanks again for all your help! It's great to find such an enthusiastically helpful online community! [:D]

    I've decided to go ahead and sell my Model 41. It's listed on Auction #91854119. I need to liquidate some of my collection, so hopefully someone who can truly appreciate this gun will give it a new home. Thanks again for your help! [:)]
