Problem with rem 760

I recently refinished the forearm on a Rem 760. I also broke the gun down and totally cleaned the parts. I reassembled the action but when I tighten the action tube down, the action bar lock will not engage to hold the action bar in place. In other words the action will not lock. It seems like the action slide needs to move about 1/8 inch further forward to make the action lock. I cannot figure out why.

Any help that you can give would be much appreciated.

What type of 760. Is it the type that the fore end is held on the action bar by a round nut. If its this type, then the nut on the foreward end that holds the fore end on is not down or tight enough and the action bar is hitting the front rounded part of the action tube support.

it is the type where the forearm is held on by an action bar. It seems that the forearm is reaching its full cycle about 1/8" before the bolt is fully closed.
