I'm looking at a "Javelina Hunter" that someone has for sale. I don't know much about AMT 1911's. Are they accurate? Reliable? Worth $750 used but in Excellent minty condition? It has a nice long slide which is hard to find on a quality 10mm 1911. That's why I'm looking.

AMT has been out of business for years. When they were still in business, their handguns had a real spotty reputation.

For $750 bucks, I would be damm sure it was functional and personally test fire it with the hotest 10mm ammo on the market, to see if it would hold up.

My 2?, is to forget AMT. Go with a Glock 20 if you want a quality 10mm.

Hello For that kind of $$$ I would pass. More in the range of $400.00 they had Galling problems when they were made. Your Mileage may vary.

If you are looking at a good 10mm with a long slide look at the Witness Hunter in 10mm. Witness handguns are very reliable and accurate. My 2 cents. [8D]

    I kinda like AMTs.
I have 3; (2) Automag II s and an Automag III.
They are fun to shoot and mine are reliable.
I defer to caution, however. Shoot it. Then buy it but no more than $500 OTD.

The 10mm AMT's are indeed rare these days, but the aforementioned galling issues and the various overall quality from the 3 major owners over the years caused a sadly well won reputation for varying quality. Some are fantastic...some I've seen were outright dangerous...something I would expect to come from Lorcin, Davis, Hi Point etc... The previous advice on the Witness Hunter?...but it. You will NOT be dissappointed unless you just can';t stand the ergonomics. Some of the best and most competitively priced pistols on the American market.

Well I do know that High Standard is bringing several old AMT models out over the next year or 2. Might want to wait and see if they are ging to make new ones.

AMT's galling problems were cured long before the 10mm came out.

I have a AMT Javelina and two AMT Lightnings that work perfectly.

I wouldn't go for the AMT, unless it proved itself testfiring. To test fire, ust Winchester 10MM Silvertips of the 175 grain loading. They are the hottest out right now. If you are after a really nice 1911 in 10MM, there is the Dan Wesson series by CZ, and Kimber makes a few variations. The old saying holds true, that you get what you pay for, and they are well worth the extra scratch.
