I came across this chambering and have yet to find any drawings or data on it. What is it wildcatted off of?? case head dia??? length? what could the chamber be reamed out to without losing barrel length?

I'm on the run today and most of tomorrow so this will be quick.
I think if my brain is still working today that this is one of Jerry Shannon's variations on the '06 full length case. It should have a 35 degree shoulder and the standard body taper as opposed to being improved.
I'll keep thinking on this and maybe some of the others will chip in with more or better.
Best.
To be sure somewhat about the chamber, take something like a soda straw or wood dowel, long toothpick (you get the idea) and slide it into the chamber and mark it where you contact the base of the shoulder at the body junction. Measure and see what you have for body length, it may not be as long as I think.
How long is the thread tenon? I think even with the body length of an '06 case, if you remove the thread tenon, you should be able to get a .243 Win. out of the barrel that's left. To get a minimum of removed barrel for the 6 BR you have lose about an inch. That will take the 6 BR neck right to the end of the '06 neck. That should leave you with at least 3" of straight tube from the shoulder forward.
Stick something non-metallic into the chamber and see what dimensions you can come up with and let's see where it goes from there.
Best.

I think you're right, let it go. Here is a question and answer by the seller:
Q: approx how many rounds down the tube? Also, what case is the sabre based on??? the 06' case?? also, what is the length of the straight tube portion before...more
Jan-20-07
A: this is a new barrel there are no shots down the tube, the case is a 6mm-7mm rem mag shortened, the shank is 1 and 3/4" long if you cut the threads off
I don't think the seller knows what he has...
Best.
If I read his answer right this is a 6mm with a 7mm Rem Mag body but shorter? I think you're right, why pay full price for a barrel that is aleady chambered in something you don't want and then have to work around.
I think it would be good barrel to use for a 6mm TCU on a rifle, but as you stated you may have used up too much barrel to change it to what I need.
How much would we have to lose to make it a 243 or 6mm?? is this still possible with the shank length?
what CAN it be turned into without losing much of the barrel?? Maybe a 6MMBR to play around with for varmints or hunting?
I can't find anything on this chambering,..so I have little idea of what chamber dimensions I am working with. He dropped it $50 from the original $200 he wanted. I think this barrel may be a sore spot for him,...and if it keeps not gaining interest,..then it might just be worth grabbing and cutting off[;)]
what all pills will work with a 14twist in 6mm??? could I run maybe 70-85gr NBT's for some crop damage work????
That dimension is 1.875" so if the 30-06 is 1.948" to the base of the shoulder and he is measuring in fractional, it could be close. However, and please understand the frustration that the non-gun merchantilists bring with their offerings, there are several quite different cartridges that this could be close to with just that one dimension. I also understand your desire to have something like this to work with.
I would e-mail or call him and get a firm answer as to what this cartridge chamber is and exactly what the dimensions are, not fractionals; decimals and accurate. He needs to understand that the "garage sale" atmosphere of fleabay cannot apply to things like barrels if he expects to sell them at all for reasonable money. Explain to him that he needs to call the folks at Shilen to get the precise dimensions of this chamber, not 'sort of like' or 'almost' but an exact description. Shilen can afford a fax or better yet an e-mail with the drawing as an attachment.
My guess is that he will simply refuse to do anything more and tell you that you should call if you're that picky. In that case, I'd tell him that the barrel is then only $50.00 since there is no way to tell what it really is and what can be gotten from it. That makes it a proverbial pig-in-the-poke, a bad gamble and not worth the risk of your money. See what he says then.
Otherwise it's up to you as to how to proceed.
Best.
