SA XD-9... Made in Croatia?

I just purchased a BI-Tone XD-9 yesterday and after a close look today I see there is a crest on top of the barrel which says it was made in Croatia. On the side it says Springfield Inc Geneseo, IL and then below it also says made in Croatia. It does have a US111111 serial number.

I believe the predecessor to this pistol (H2000 ?) was made in Croatia. I am wondering if SA has licensed the XD to be made both in the US and Croatia or are they all made overseas? Is there any value difference between those made in the US and those made in Croatia?

Any insight is appreciated

Thanks,

Maalox

The gun is made in Croatia. They were sold under another name for awhile...Springfield figured they could make a buck and put their name on it and increased the price significantly.

All the plastic crap that comes with the gun is made in Israel.

I think the only SA gun made in the US is the M1A. That is the main reason I suggest Kimbers over SA.

    Thanks for the reply,

So does this mean all the XDs carry this crest and the "Made in Croatia" label? I had looked at a few of these before I purchased one but never noticed it.

It was the HS2000, I had one and was stupid enough to get rid of it. It was one of the best weapons I ever owned and I didn't realize it until after it was gone.

All of the XD's are made in Croatia. Croatia is one of the "republics" that used to be part of Yugoslavia before it broke up. The XD is the same gun that used to be marketed as the HS 2000.
I wouldn't worry about the country of origin anymore than I would with Glocks being made in Austria. The cost of living in Croatia is probably a lot less than it is in Austria. That's one of the reasons the XD sells for less than a Glock.

Even Remington is selling rifles now that are made in Serbia, which is another one of the former Yugoslavian "republics". They seem to know how to build decent quality guns for the price over there.

I bought one by accident years ago on G.B. N.I.B. condition but there was a typo in the listing title. It was listed as a "9mm Intratec semi-auto pistol". It should have been "Intertec". There was no pic & I got it for $130. or so - thinking it was a Tec-9.

What a surprize when I opened the box and an even bigger surprize then I started shooting it. Fits my hand like a glove, never has misfired or failed to eject, and I can hit what my old eyes are aiming at. I love that thing!
It's too late for me, save yourself.

Well back from the range and I must say I like the XD-9. This is the subcopmpact (3") version and I was concerned about how it would fit. With the extended mag it fits just like my Glock 22. With the regular mag I can't get all my fingers on the grip but I can roll the pinky under the handle and it supports the gun. I am no crack shot but it seemed to be pretty accurate for a 3" barreled weapon.

Now let's see what the Saints can do with the Bears.

    Later,
