I have never handled mdl.60 how does the frame size compare to
a mdl.36?

Identical, except for the 60 being stainless.

Depends on which model 60 you are refering to. The model 36 and the original model 60 are the same size, just different metal.

In 1996 Smith chambered the 60 in .357 mag and used a slightly larger frame. These were stamped 60-9, and the adjustable sight version stamped 60-10.

There is also the 60-9 which is the 2 1/8 inch bbl.

Both are on what Smith refers to as the "J Magnum" frame, which as mentioned previously is slightly larger than the std. J frame. However, there is no difference in grip size between the "J Magnum" and the std. "J frame".
