I am looking at fal's and was wanting to know what is good one to buy,as far as what kind reciever to get and what not to get. I seen some here on GB any where from 600 to 1800. I know you pay for what you get, but I dont what a p.o.s. Some of the pre-banwas around 4 thousand dollars. I cant spend that much so I will haft to buy a clone. But what one? thanks.

Get a metric one, not an inch one.

Stay away from anything with Hesse/Vulcan on it. Only buy a Centruy Arms one if it has Imbel stamped on the reciever. Stick with DSA otherwise or a build on Imbel or DSA recviever done by a competant gunsmith.

The newer century guns are OK, they finally fixed up their reciever issues. Also, most are inch pattern. I have a all metric century that is just fine.

However, the best kit based FAL (which all but the originals are) is going to be a DSA - you can find 'em for 800-1000.

Ditto on the "Imbel"...Most of the cheaper models...have been slapped together..... headspacing and gas port timing are BIG issues when it comes to accuracy in the FAL. I really like my STG-58..

Check out DSA - I have just bought their SA58 carbine and it is excellent quality.

Cost for a new one is about $1,400.00 depending on the shop & what you want on it. You could probably have one built up with a DSA receiver & excellent parts kit, total of about $850.00 for the kit & receiver. I have no idea how much you'd be charged by a gunsmith to assemble & test fire.

I'd go with the complete gun from DSA for the 1st time around.

As I understand it the L1A1 FN FAL (inch pattern) was the better made/better accuracy weapon. However the metric pattern is more prevalent, BUT that's only what I've read, anybody heard different?
