I forgot to address your question of the bore. Most old Winchester lever-actions that were shot regularly (and subsequently cleaned), will exhibit moderate wear at the muzzle.

Additionally, modern manufactured ammo is not always made with the correct diameter bullets for the older guns. As an example, the old original 38-55 rifles and cartridge were made and loaded with a .379" bullet. Modern manufactured 38-55 firearms and ammo are .375".
