Winchester 1895 (US Marked) Carbine

Today I Purchased a Winchester 1895 Carbine with US Stamped on the Receiver. Serial number 17961 - Cal 30 Govt. the only info I can find is that the Govt purchased 10,000 1895 Muskets - any info on US Property Market 1895 Carbines? Thanks in advance.

According to "Flayderman's Guide", there's no such thing. I0,000 28" muskets with "U.S." markings were made during the Spanish American War, no carbines.

It indicates that there were carbines with US Government markings, but doesn't indicate what the markings were.

Yes indeed, there were "U.S." marked Model 1895 Carbines. The serial number on the Carbine in question can be researched/lettered by the Cody Firearms Museum, and I highly recommend doing so - http://www.bbhc.org/firearms/records.cfm
