Can anyone tell me the year of my springfield by the serial numbers? I am trying to find some night sights for it and this seems to be an unavoidable question when ordering. N446932 any help is greatly appreciated. thinking about novaks (have them now and love em) anyone had any luck with their nights?

I have an opportunity of buying a stainless 1911 which was traded in recently at my local store. It has no more than 150 rounds thru the barrel, according to the dealer who is a personal friend of the person who traded it in... How would I be able to check to see if this gun is what they say it is.... priced at about 475.... looks great, and barrel looks extremely clean... book value new is about 945... any thoughts would help on this purchase... This model built to the old military specs....

    Hi Sudsy,
The first thing that I would do is get the serial number and contact Springfield for a SN search. When you call give them the SN and ask what year it was MFG in. When they tell you they can give you all of the additional information about the firearm (as it left the factory). If there have been any after shipping mods. then that is different. I purchased a 1911 in 9mm and they told me everything about it, per their records. I hope that this helps. Reguarding price that is not a bad price if it is a loaded mod. If it is standard GI. you can purchase blue mods for a little bit more. SS I am uncertain of but call your local dealer and price check on SS mods to see if you really are getting a deal.

You will probably have to trust the dealer about the 150rds figure. It is very hard to tell by just looking at the gun how many shots it has fired.

There will be wear on the outside of the barrel from where the bushing slides on it. After 150rds there will be some visible wear, but it could also mean 300 or 400 rds or more.

If he is asking about half of retail and the gun is in pretty decent condition, it sounds like a good deal even if more than 150rds have passed through it.

I've been satisfied with every Springfield I've bought. $475 sounds fair. Makes a great gun to upgrade.

Not to be too leary of the deal, but an as new gun, with a known history at half the book? Unless he hasn't been able to move the piece for a good time I don't understand the deep discount.

This firearm is well made, I have two (one stainless one blue). It is completely upgradable and a lot guys buy these to strip for their custom builds. You can't go far wrong with this firearm. Good as is, and can be improved upon easily and fairly reasonably.

unless you are the direct owener you are not going to know how many rounds went through it. Even if you are, who keeps trak of every round

who cares whether 150 or 1000 rd fired on a practical piece, that is nothing
That is not a $900 pistol, just so you know

Big +1. Round count means nothing. These guns will out last you and your grand children if maintained.

I think their 1911 A-1 used to be referred to as the "Loaded" model? I bought one in polished blued, extended safety with Novak sight & some nice grips a few years ago for $500.00. Shoots very well & as stated will take any add ons you might like. Yours may have the 2 piece barrel as does mine. I've heard some folks question the strength of the 2 piece, I've had no problem at all.

The price seems pretty good considering it's also a stainless model.
