Best Lightweight rifle in .270

Hey all,

Just wondering what is the best manufactured rifle for the price, chambered for the .270 Winchester in you opinions? I am asking this question because I am going to trade for a .270 in the near future. So far the Remington Model 700 Mountain LSS is my top choice, but it is a little spendy.
Thanks in advance,

Jon

If you want the best gun for the $ - Savage 116 - Accu-trigger cannot be beat. Every Savage I've had outshot every Remington I've had.
If you want to spend more (I think the price is fair) - Weatherby Mark V Ultra Lightweight. I had one for a couple of weeks in .257 WM and it was in my opinion about perfect. The gun shot sub 0.5 moa groups using the factory 117 gr ROUND NOSE ammo (that was some of the ammo that came with it and I figured I would shoot it up - I never would have guessed it would shoot like that!)

Another rifle to consider is a Howa. They make the Vanguard for Weatherby. A really good buy for the money.

While the Savage is a good gun and would be my second choice, the best gun for the money is the Tikka. Unbelievably accurate, butter smooth action, and the best trigger I've felt on a factory rifle, including the accu-trigger. Price is comparable to the Savage, again my second choice.

i have 2 270's, and love them both. neither are usually economical, but i happened to get each for about 1/2 price brand new on closeouts. i concur with all the input above--note that none are too enthused re: your remington idea! i have a tikka 695 in another caliber, and must say i like it a great deal--smooth bolt, nice trigger, very accurate, handles well. you may be well served with a T3 lightweight. savages are very accurate by reputation. been looking at weatherby ultra-lights myself lately--i think the quality synthetic stock is a big plus, and they are lightweight. picked out a howa for a friend last year and he loves it, unbeatable for the price. assuming you want a light one because of a lot of climbing/walking, a good synthetic stock makes sense. really happy with a similar one on one of my 270s.

I have a T3 lite stainless in 223. I bought it on Gunbroker. It may be a good choice in 270. Just have the gun in hand first. I really do not like the ergonomics of the safety. They are light weight and shoot well. The trigger is very good. I like the detachable mag (replacements are expensive).

Thanks for the input fellas. I did a little more research and have narrowed it down to 3(Tiika T3 Lite, Ruger Ultralight, and Savage 116). Each had it's own positives and negatives IMO. Gotta work tonight and then will be going to the local gun shops to check out each model one last time tomorrow morning. I will keep you updated.

    DL (skyhigh):

i just looked at a weatherby ultralight again, and like everything--except the safety. it was convenient enough, but seemed to be very coarse and rough in operating. how did you like it?
