ok this is my first post. I acquired this revolver(my first ever) from a distant family member they told me to sell it if i didnt want it. The only problem is i dont even know how much its worth?

all the info stamped on it is:
Western Marshall .44 mag cal

Hawes Firearms co
los angeles, ca
made in western germany by
J.P sauer&sohn

and the there is an "89" stamped on it(i think that it maybe the year).

but anyway it is a 6 shot. the cylinder doesnt swing out its fixed. and its a single action. Can anyone help me determine the value of this gun? even if its a ballpark that would help greatly thanks[8D]

tysson_d@hotmail.com please email me if you can as i dont get on this forum very often.

Believe your reading the number upside down ( West German proof date ), probably 68. As far as I know Hawes was only in business, to about the mid 70's or so.

Sauer made quality products, which is a plus as far as value is concerned.

If you could post some pictures, or at least let us know originality/condition of the revolver, we would be more able to give you an accurate appraisal of it's value.

Blue BooK $150.00-$250.00 Not the best quality and no collector value.

I'm going to go out on a little limb and agree the Hawes has little collector value. Some of their revolvers show as little as $60.00 used sale value. But their 44 Mag single action was known as a good quality revolver.

Hawes imported/sold many different handguns during the 60's/70's time frame, when they were in business. Agreed, lot/most of them were crap. Some definitely weren't, they were the first importer of the SIG Model 220, even before Browning. A number of years ago I had the opportunity to buy a Hawes marked 220, I still regret passing on it.

Agreed. While you can shoot a 44-special to take some of the punch out of a 44-magnum, that's still one hell of a punch to use for a first-timer.

If you're interested in taking up shooting (and I highly recommend it), for a first gun I'd either do a .22 (very cheap to shoot and you get to learn the basics on something with zero recoil) or if you want something a bit larger, a 9mm (not so cheap to shoot, but has some stopping power as a defensive round).

    Good luck!

[8D]-Yo tysson--I have nearly the same-except mine is a semi virgin and is a beautiful similar repo of the Colt "peacemaker" ---

--It is a fine 44mag/44 and mine is the "CHIEF MARSHAL" CIRCA 1984--

--THEY'RE RIGHT , not much collectors value and any repairs can be expensive--

--I keep mine because it's just a great exhibit of the earlier SIG workmanship

--here's my last picture of the CHIEF MARSHAL

    --imgp00375ri.jpg

    --keep it as a momento--
