Springfield .45 difference between G.I. and Mil Sp

I am looking for a basic .45 for target practice. I have found a G.I. model and a Mil Spec. They both look very similar sights look different, Mil Spec basic and G.I. 3 dot.

Mil Spec has Brazil and G.I. shows IL made.

Is one that much better than the other? I might trick it out at a later time, but right now for roughly the same price which is a better gun?

Thanks

Hello they both have frames made in Brazil but the one marked brazil is put together there and the one marked U.S. is put together in the U.S. I would go with the G.I. Just a side note I dont think the Mil Spec is legal in CMP/DCM type matches but you might check with CMP They have changed some rules in the last 2 years . Mag Well or other items?

Yes, I think the Mag well was honed out on the GI not mil spec. Is $400 good for a Used one in great condition (GI model)

That is a good price IMHO if it has not had BUBBA do a gunsmith job on it. See if you can test fire before any money changes hands and make sure it does not buldge cases from someone removing metal on the barrel feed ramp.

Just take a look on the Gunbroker auction site. I went over ther 30 seconds ago and copied this link for a new full-sized G.I. model, and there are many more.

mil spec has a higher grip safety,3 dot sights, beveled magazine well, polished feed ramp, throated barrel, and a lowered, and flared ejection port, basically a few hundred dollars of the stuff you would want to do to a g.i.

beware of sellers pushing a g.i. as a mil-spec, you can tell right off the bat by the slanted slide serrations on the mil-spec, i have seen many of the represented as the mil-spec, some on purpose, some by ignorance

1911A1 is right about the quality in comparison. The true mil-spec has more finished features. There has been some confusion even in the Springfield Armory Co. itself, evidently, as some of the boxes they ship the G.I. model in say "mil-spec" on the label.

If, however, you will go to the Springfield Armory home page and click on "Products" and then click on "The Armory", you will find links to the different models of 1911A1 pistol. Select each to learn what you get.

I am very pleased with my Milspec. Best buy I've ever made.
I have a question for you other Milspec owners.
The end of the barrel on my gun is thicker than the rest of it. It is not much, really hard to see, but you can feel it.

One gunsmith I visit said it looked like a barrel/bushing upgrade. The bbl end was larger so the bushing/fit in battery was very close. It was not left this diameter full length to allow for the barrel to drop when cycling.

Do any of you have a bbl like that?
Does the 'smith explaination fit anyones 1911 knowledge ?

They don't sell a blued G.I. model. The choices are Parkerized, Stainless, and Green Armory Kote (one size only).
