bbl bigger at end on MILSPEC

OK, I've hitched on other GI/MILSPEC posts with this, but have not gotten any responses, so here it is...
I bought a S.A. 45 MILSPEC a while back (NIB). It shoots anything I use and groups very well...so of course I have been very happy with it. I still have a question.

The end of the barrel is thicker than the rest of it. It is not much, but enough for you to see and feel.

One gunsmith I visit now and then said it looked like a barrel/bushing upgrade..... the bushing/bbl fit is very close in battery. It is not left this tight for the full length to allow for the barrel to drop when cycling.

Is this bbl a regular milspec upgrade ? I've had a few folks say "no"...but if not, how did it happen ? I broke the plastic seals when it was delivered.
Does anyone have any comments ?

Companies make improvements from time to time - either to benefit the customer or simplify the manufacturing process and earn greater profit, or a combination of both - and it sounds like that's what was done here. Why take the time to carefully fit the whole bbl diamter when the last inch or so locking up is what counts?

Springfield may outsource their bbls and have them slightly oversized, do the final fitting in house - just a guess, but having that bbl configuration alone doesn't make or not make it "mil-spec" nor does having it indicate an after market alteration.

As you say, it shoots well so they've done it right.

Hello with a fitted bushing you need to turn the barrel down behind the first say 3/8 inch the reason is the barrel tips down at the rear when the slide starts to move backwards. if the bushing was snug "good thing" when locked up for fireing and then the slide would bind under recoil. In some guns this differance in barrel diameter is more noticeable then others depends on what size the bushing is to start with..
