    codenamepaul,

That is a correct scope and they were great scopes...but they do not normally bring that kind of money. A grand? to 1500? if in good condition. Definitely not 3K...until someone pays it.

    EDIT:

    Lendie,

In what way should I get a life? I said a grand with a question mark on it. Meaning that would be the outside it would be worth. Sorry...I didn't say perfect condition. They don't usually bring 3K just for the scope. You see complete rifle and scope here for that kind of money. And a lot of times they don't get bid on.

Apologies all, I read codenamepauls title and skipped the auction title and description. Thought the auction was for the scope not scope and rifle. Things do slip past me sometimes. This is one of those D'OH! moments.

it surely wouldn't be $3000 worth of scope. I find it hard to justify much more than maybe $2000 for the TOP of the line, best built, toughest, clearest, etc etc. I find $1500 Nightforce to leave very little to nothing to desire,..so what does the other $1500 get you?? Certainly nothing from that time period needs to even show up at my house,....it'll be for sale to first available sucker.

other than collectors status, I don't see even 1/3 of his opening bid worth of stuff there.

I don't like the way the screw heads have been buggered up on the scope mount. For $3000, least he could do would be to get some decent replacements, or file and dress the slots so they wouldn't look so bad.

Just to clarify, $3,000.00 is for the scope & rifle, correct?

The auction is for rifle and scope. Sandwarrior posted picks of his life a little while back. Very nice I thought. You guys get a grip.

All of you guys are out to lunch.

The ZF41 system was the first of the "Scout Rifle" designs and was almost a total failure. The system was NEVER considered by OKW to be anything other than an improved sight for good marksmen. A real sniper school graduate was issued the ZF-39 or ZF-4 scope (4 power or above).

The 20mm tube was useless in marginal light and never was precision enough for much over 150-200 metres.

The rifle and scope in question has been floating around quite awhile because it has fake DAK markings and is most likely a post-war put together.

The sum value of the whole is no greater than the total of it's parts which is still around $1500 or so.

But as a German sniper rifle, not a chance. If it was a genuine ZF-41 rig that was unmessed with, it would be valued currently around $2200-$2500.

    ADDENDUM:
    1ky;
The Deutsche Afrika Korps (DAK) markings on the ZF-41 mount are fake. The stamp never existed.

p3SkyKing hits the nail on the head again! The OKW HATED the scope, most soldiers had no use for it and it was something of an aborted path. This one, des[pite the supposed Africa Corp provenance (and it may well be... I don't know)would not be, in my opinion, worth that kind of money, although not too much short of that if it is indeed a bringback. I would say around $2500 tops. Now we'll see if we're correct or not as the market basically dictates all sales.

On a different note, LENDIE, you might not want to take pot shots at forum members here. I realise you are a newbie and operating from a different country (sorry...Bullhead city is NOT a foreign country...my mistake! Look, see how that works?), but getting in Sandwarriors face like that is liable to raise a few hackels, and I can assure you MINE are up already. Everyone makes the occasional mistake...at least he admits to his unlike some of us! To sum up...cut that the he** out, or be treated as the troll I feel you just might be! If it was done in fun, or you did not mean to be that critical, fine, we all have fun from time to time on this forum. If it was done purposefully...stop it. Period. I can assure you that life on this forum for you will be of limited enjoyment. Straighten up and play nice, or take your ball and go home.

Thanks P3...that's what I thought. It looked a little too crisp and in the back of my mind was that nagging little voice telling me that it was a fabrication. Thanks for the info...much appreciated!
