I love the look of the Uberti Scholfields. Any oppinion on their quality and accuracy? Which of the new makers do you suggest? My purpose for it happens to be the usual ones [I want one to shoot the heck out of it and show it off]. Also what barrel length do you guys/gals prefer? Any suggestions well listened to. Thanks

I have some of these older S&W pistols and my favorite is the number three single action target . The scholfields are Ok but I like adjustable sights IF It were me and I had the Money I would try to find one of the Scholfiels that S&W made in the custom shop just a few years ago.

I've had a number Uberti's from Cimaron to use as the base for customs guns....ie...a 73 winchester etc. All of them I had required a fair amount of work just to smooth up and replace soft parts. I knew this going in but like in the case of the 73.....it was cheaper to buy one of their rifls to use the action and the stock as a pattern than to buy and cut up an original. I have had some that shot well though. Cimmaron's cystomer service and parts availablity is pathetic in my dealings with them. As perryshooter said you may want to find the Schofields S&W made in 2000. There was a fellow selling a bunch of them on th Smith and Wesson forum. A lot were new and the pair I bought were exceptionaly nice and I though very fairly priced....he may still have some.

I have an original second model Schofield civilian that is old but nice.Never have figured out WHY S&W used the first model to reproduce them..The second is far and away easier to use..
You are right PERRY,the 38-44 New model #3 Target is the best of the bunch..The one I have out shoots every handgun I have EVER used.mine has the long frame as does my 44-40.Did I mention that I collect S&Ws.modoc
