Could someone tell me what the OAL of the 44 mag and the 44 special are?
Anyone know how many specials will fit in a 10 shot Marlin 44 magnum 1894? Is this type of info on the web anywhere? I could not find it.
thanks

The 2000 Gun Digest shows it has a 10 round magazine capacity in both the .44 Special and .44 Magnum calibers.

Lymans manual lists the 44 special OAL as 1.615 and the 44 mag as 1.610 in the diagrams. But....the 44 mag with 300gr Jacketed SP has an OAL of 1.720 and several others over the 1.610 diagram OAL

So your capacity would depend somewhat on wether you loaded with stock bullets or the heavy 300+gr relaods. Garrett and Buffalo Bore make some heavy duty 44 mag rounds that are larger than the stock stuff.

I mention this because you must not have the gun in hand, or you would just feed it till it's full. Below is similar, that may be something nobody can for-tell for you, you have to find it out yourself.

I've been shooting 44 mag for a long time, and about 15 years ago I picked up a lever gun. I got a Winchester although I really wanted a Marlin. The load that shot the absolute best out of my revolvers used a Kieth's 255gr SWC...it would not feed in the lever gun. OAL was right at the spec, but the wider shape at the SWC tip would catch and fail to feed.
Check out what you can..best of luck... and ENJOY !

I do not own the gun yet. I thought if 44 magnums were longer, it may hold 1 or more extra specials.
    Thanks all

My 20" marlin 1894 in 44 holds 10 magnums, 11 specials, or 13 russians in the tube.
