Can anyone tell me about a S&W 686 in 41spcl? It is up for sale locally and I don't know what it may be worth. It has really been worked up nice with an action job, jewled trigger and hammer, nice grips... ect.

41 Special? As far as I know, that has to be a custom job, as 41 special is a custom round, essentially a shortened 41 magnum case. Guess it would be worth whatever you want to pay for it but I bet the custom work alone cost a bunch.

Got to wonder about the advantage of a 41 special.Sounds like somebody put a lot of money though.

According to the "Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson" S&W never made any guns in .41spl. They did make a number of .41 Magnum guns which, of course, can fire .41 spl ammunition.

I CERTAINLY DON'T CLAIM TO 'KNOW IT ALL' BUT I'VE NEVER HEARD OF A ".41 SPECIAL", AND I'M SURE S&W NEVER MADE ONE. A CUSTOM WILDCAT MAYBE BUT IT'S NOT FACTORY ORIGINAL.

If you've always wanted a custom 686 chambered for the .41, then I suppose it's worth the price of an average 686 plus the custom work, but I wouldn't pay strong money for it with any hope of recovering the cost at some point in the future. Problem often is that the owner is trying to get back what they put into it, and , unless it's exactly what you were planning on building on your own, it just cost too much.
That said, it does sound like a nice piece, though a .44 spl. would excite me a lot more.

very cool round , lets you put a bigger bullet in the same size frame as whats used for the 357mag, sure you can't get the same vel. out of it but some people like the idea of shooting the bigger dia. bullet at slower vel.
