Anyone have helpful websites that are free, for info on what approx date our Smith and Wessons were made? I have a model 15-3 that I may trade for a model 15-2 in better condition. I bet lots of us would like to know this info for one gun or another without pay hundreds for a letter from Smith. I would write Smith if I had a jewel. Thanks

For what it's worth. The model 15-2 was made from 1961 to 1967. The 15-3 from 1967 to 1977.

If you post the serial numbers I can probably give you good dates.

The cost of a S&W letter is $35 ... not ... "hundreds".

The difference between a 15-2 and a 15-3 is a different site screw location and that 15-3 deleted the "diamond" grips. If both models were in identical condition the 15-2 might have $20+/- more value because of the grips.

Not all 15-2's had diamond grips. My 15-2 has the orginial grips that it came with new which are numbered to the revolver and they are not diamonds. I am the original owner , I bought it new in 1966.
