Will a straight grip butt stock from a Savage 99A series A (As sold at Numrich gun Parts Corp. {http://www.e-gunparts.com/DisplayAd.asp?chrProductSKU=980760&chrSuperSKU=&MC=} fit on a 99H barrel band carbine? I am looking to use my 99H carbine .30/30 and need a new stock that is more solid than the original for use. The original has several repaired cracks in it and a couple of unrepaired cracks and I'm not sure I trust it. Of course I would keep the original for it's value/collectibility.

THERE ARE ONLY TWO TYPES OF SAVAGE STOCKS, STRAIGHT AND PISTOL GRIP (FOR USEING PURPOSES). THIS SHOULD FIT, BUT MAY NEED MINOR FITTING.

Boyds offers both styles of M99 stocks, I just checked and they are under $50. Straight stock levers have a different shape then the pistol grip style. If you currently have a straight stock then that is the style you need to get. From what I know about Boyds, I would expect the stock to just about bolt up with little to no fitting needed. A few coats of oil and your choice of recoil pad or plate and you are off.
