I have a Rem 700 in .260 coming in tomorrow that shooter says after loading and firing 1st round, the action is cycled and 2nd shot fails to fire, just clicks. Did it twice. Any ideas on what the problem may be? TYVM/G[?]

Hello If it just clicks this indicates that the trigger is working but either the fireing pin is being restricted crude inside the bolt fireing pin area, weak spring, broken fireing pin it is in 2 pieces, fireing pin too short. or The chamber in the barrel is too long and the cartridge is not being held close enough to the bolt face.

Sounds like some sort of problem with the firing pin. The firing pin could be damaged, it might be binding, it might be short firing-pin protrusion. If it is any of this you will need to replace the firing-pin. Have you tried different ammo? Could be faulty ammo. Let us know what the problem is when you figure it out.

[:D] Thanks for the tips. My first plan of attack was to disassemble the bolt and check that. Gun was bought used at a gunshow so there is no telling what it went thru before. Thanks again.

Another thing to check is the overtravel on the trigger. I have had two separate instances where the owners were going to save some money and adjust the trigger themselves. Neither of them had a clue what each screw did and ended up with the overtravel screw in so far that the striker would fall (allowing a click as though it were functioning properly) but the cocking piece would be either retarded(in this case it would fire occasionally) or actually totally stopped by the sear. This is REALLY hard on triggers. If this is a used gun who knows what the former owner may have tried to do. Of course being a 260 is enough of a problem in itself.[;)]
