There is a BIG differance between a model 1911 and a 1911 type. A true 1911 is single stack and in the 1920's there were some changes and this became the 1911A1 + Now go forward to the 1970's and other people started makeing 1911 TYPE clones this used the same general concept as the 1911A1 but with a number of changes Extended slide stop pin . amie safety , beaver tail grip safety , gripping groove front and back of slide, beveled mag well , one piece guide rod and many others including a double stack grip frame . The answer to your question Is up to you on what you call a 1911 My answer is NO Colt or Remington UMC or Springfield U.S armory or Savage ever made a true 1911 vintage 1911-1927 in a double stack. Your mileage may vary "PRAISE THE HARD-BALL GUN"

Kimber and Para Ordnance make 1911 style pistols with double stack mags, other manufacturers do as well I'm sure.

    I am with Perry Shooter.
There are plenty of guns out there with double stack magazines that otherwise look like a 1911 and work like a 1911 and even use some 1911 internal parts, but they are not fully interchangeable with the US service pistol, model of 1911 or 1911A1. So I will at best call them "1911 type" but more often "1911 mutations."

    Hmmm... 1911 Type.
    Interesting statement.
I suppose a purest would say that it must be a .45 ACP with fixed sites. Forget the Ambi Safety. 8 rd mag is out of the question. And absolutely no Beavertail Grip Safety. And it probably should be produced to loose as a goose tolerences. It breaks my heart to think I got scammed into buying a Colt SS GCNM and it is only a 1911 Type. Thank God I have my old Remington Rand to fall back on.

There is no Military spec version of a 1911, but..............

This Kimber is a very nice "mutation":

And so is this Para P-14:

Both of these guns are very excelent firearms. It is just too bad they are not "Real" 1911's, but they do hold 14rds of .45. Oh yeah neither are near as cheep to buy as Mil Spec 1911's.
