CAN YOU SHOOT A LONG RIFLE .22 OUT OF THE .22 MAG CYLINDER IN A COLT PEACEMAKER AND COLT SCOUT? ** ALSO WERE ALL OF THE SCOUT CYLINDERS FLUTED OR WERE SOME OF THE MAGNUM CYLINDERS SMOOTH LIKE THE PEACEMAKERS?** THANKS

NO - the magnum (.22wmr) is a larger cartridge. You need to have the .22lr cylinder.

Well, you CAN do it, but you shouldn't.

First, you will have unreliable ignition, as the edge of the case head may only be partially struck by the firing pin.

Second, since the chamber is much too large to adequately support the case, there is a high probability of case failure. This will result in hot gases & pieces of brass being sprayed out of the cylinder gap.

    Third, accuracy will be poor.

Fourth, you will peen the cylinder at the firing pin notch, ruining it or requiring gunsmith repair.

Some of the Colt magnum cylinders for the Scout were the smooth, non-fluted type.
