How safe are Glocks?

I have been reading alot of articles as of late about the "upgrades" that Glock had starting in 1992 primarily with the model 19. Are there any current unaddressed issues concerning safety and reliability with the Glock line of handguns?

Better then most, they're are just glock bashers out there, Glocks are up there with H&K and Springfield (prolly beat the XD) or h&k for that fact. I have a G17 and they are the best of the best...

I've had different experiences with Glocks. I never bought into the advertising hype they put out. Come on, a safety lever on the trigger!

I have seen malfunctions on the range with the Glocks, more than likely shooter induced, but still a malfunction.

I have seen rounds that would not chamber in a Glock, chamber and fire in a Beretta.

If I was going to shoot strictly competition, I might consider one. I have shot them and they do shoot well. I just don't like the weight/balance of the Glocks.

Just a personal preference like preferring a Dodge truck over a Ford or Chevrolet or vice versa.

Don't hate me because I don't love the almighty "GLOCK".

I currently have five different Glocks, all have been completely reliable and have not presented any difficulties or problems of any kind.

I prefer my 1911's, but would not flinch at trusting my life to a Glock any day of the week.

Glocks are accurate and well liked by some.I shot one myself when they first came out(9mm) and I shot pretty good with it. That being said, however, I have seen three blow up in the last couple of years at the range I frequent. I usually cringe when there is one in the booth next to me. When you actually see one go kaboom and know it happens on a certain basis, it takes some of the fun out of your shooting experience. If I know there is one next to me, I usually ask them to move to another booth farther down if there is room. In the cases I know of the pistols were all of higher caliber than 9mm. So I would say a 9mm would be safe. The rest, well I think you are gambling.

O.K. , I will start by saying that I not only own and carry a couple of glocks (a model 23 40 cal. as duty gun and a model 2 40 cal. as a off duty gun)and I have been to the glock armory school and have sold "several" glocks in the shop ...I like them , and at times wondered aalso about safety ??? but personally have not had nor seen any issues at the reange (as a shooter and a range instructor)....So , Im going to say , they are as safe as most anything , all with proper handling (follow the basic gun safety rules!)!!!!
    Thanks !!!

I've owned 4 different glocks and they were all awesome guns. My favorite of the 4 is the 23c. It's not a great duty pistol for officers just because of the possibility of shooting at night, but it sure is a sweet pistol. The s&w M&P is a nice pistol too. Both have been extremely reliable so far.

Glocks are safe if handled properly and all manufacturers safety regs are followed(ammo, maintainence, etc). They shoot very well and are dependable if properly maintained. I personally don't care for them mainly because of lack of external safety, but if handled properly they are still safe. Also as mentioned before, I don't care for the balance of most of the Glocks. I have owned them before, but have since moved on to the XDs, which I like a lot better.

Some people just don't like them at all, there are alot of Glock bashers out there. I have bashed a few my time, but they were individual pistols I had bashed. To each their own I always say! IF you like it, stick with it! Most of the upgrades I have seen are to make the pistols perform better and a few for safety concerns. Good Shooting!!

I'm not sure if I've seen anyone post yet about not shooting lead (un-jacketed) ammo thru factory barrels. That's where you get into trouble.

Some after market barrels you can buy and use lead ammo such as LoneWolf.

Glocks , you ether love em or hate em. Great design, but I just hate the way they feel.
