I have seen different opinions on what can and can not be fired in this shotgun in regard to steel shot. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

The normal recommendation is to not shoot steel out of a full choke that was made for lead shot. Normal full chokes are too tight for steel. Lead shot will compress a bit when constricted by a choke while steel will not and if the shot won't constrict then the barrel just might expand. You'll end up with a bulge just behind the choke at best or a split barrel at worst. The right gunsmith can open the choke a bit so it will be safe for steel.

You could cut it back some to remove taper. How heavy is the barrel casting?

Welcome to the forum...suggest you have a qualified gunsmith look at it.
