winchester button magazine

Can somebody tell me what exactly a button magazine is on a winchester lever gun? Is the button the type of end cap on the magazine tube? What is unique to it compared to the common flat cap with the screwdriver slot? Please advise.

Here's one on a rifle and one on a carbine.

The magazine cap on the right is held into the forearm cap by a ridge inside the forearm cap. That's on the rifle. The carbine on the left has the magazine cap held into the magazine tube by a screw coming up from the bottom. Does that help?

Here's the end views. First the carbine. buttonm3.jpg

    Then the rifle.

Not the best pic but hopefully it'll help.
