i have a savage arms over&under 22mag,20 gage.model#24j-dl. my question is, can you drill and tap the top bbl?the grooves the factory give you aren't deep enough. the gun is stamped(do not fire shotgun with scope attached)i would love to be able to put a scope on it, its a great turkey gun!!

The barrel wall thickness is not great enough to drill and tap for scope mounts and likewise the grooved barrel does not allow for this type of mount to hold a scope with the recoil of the shotgun barrel. THUS the instructions on the gun. Also you might want to rethink the 22 mag for TURKEY. YES it will kill a turkey with correct shot placement but looses knock down power quickly at distances needing a scope on a game animal as big as a TURKEY just my $.02 go with a Valmet 223or 243 under a 12Ga. 3inch mag. Model 412 or 512. Best turkey gun ever made IMHO.

Check with midway you can get a .22 dovetail detachable mount with near zero return to setting. Then you can put the scope on for rifle shooting and leave it off most of the time. A sock sleeve or scope sleeve attached inside your jacket will carry the scope. If you like the idea of a over/under combo, you got the wrong gun, take advice , valmet.
