If 1981 was the 1st year of production, then I'd say yours was made in 1981. I doubt they started production at 81-12401. So yours was made prior to that. My guess is that they started w/81-00001 and that 81-12401 was the year end finish number produced.

Fatstrat has it, but the year was 1973.

1973 was the last year of Old Model production and first year of New Model production for the Super Blackhawk, and all Ruger single action revolvers.

    1973.....81-00001 to 81-12400

The Factory grips would be oiled walnut, Silver Eagle medallions, with blue escutcheons and blue screw, the cylinder should be recessed with a firing pin groove and smooth trigger(not serrated).

    Hope this helps.

The Blue Book says that the "New Model SBH" was new in 1973 starting with SN# 81-00001. So with the listing you give of serialization. I would say 1973.

Hi, I have a New Model Super Blackhawk 44mag with serial # of 83-02502. The chart says 1980 but this gun came out of my parents store but they sold the store in 1979. All along I thought this was a mid 70's gun. I did get this revolver after my dad's death in 1984...maybe he got another one and I didn't know it??? Is it really 1980?

    Thanks

Thank you. I guess I was focusing too much on the "83" That's about what I remember and makes sence.
