I do not know when it would have been made but I would pull the action out of the stock and make sure I did not have a salt cured stock. It won't be hard to tell, the action and berrel under the wood will be rusted and if it has been in the stock long enough it will be pitted.
I have a friend that is a gunsmith and this gent brought him a German built 300 Weatherby Mark V. to have a scope put on. He pulled the action out of the stock to check it and it was so pitted up he told the new owner it would be unsafe to shoot. The rifle looked perfict above the wood line.

My reference notes that Sauer made them from 1959 to 1972. Unfortunately it doesn't give any serial number data.
