Are the Taurus Hand guns any good, I mean are they built well[?] Like to buy a handgun but don't want to spend allot for it. I would use it for target shooting maybe some hunting, mostly for home protection.
Got my latest American Rifleman an saw this Taurus OSS .45ACP on the front cover looks good an strong etc. Don't know much about Taurus guns, I know they been around for awhile and thats about it. So I come to the Experts of this Forum to find out more.[:)] Thanks for time

I had a Taurus PT 145 and found it to be a very reliable firearm. The only thing I disliked was the long double action trigger pull. That's why I traded it off. I really liked the gun: it was small, held 10 rounds of .45, went "Bang" absolutely everytime I pulled the trigger, ate everything I fed it, and was accurate. I also have a Taurus PT911 in 9mm that is DA/SA, and I have found it to be just as reliable as the PT145. They are good guns.

I can only speak for the Taurus revolvers myself (see my sig. line), but in my honest opinion, they ARE as good as a Smith. If you can ignore the shout of "BLASPHEMY!!" from the peanut gallery, go check one out yourself. I was actually comparing a Smith snub-nose and a like Taurus model last night. Couldn't tell any difference in fit, finish, etc. Just liked the Taurus grip a hair better myself. I can't honestly speak on their semi-autos yet, but I'm looking for a range that will let me rent a Millenium Pro in .40 S&W to test, possibly to end up carrying as a CCW gun. Only real con is the Taurus isn't made in the US. Other than that, I think the Taurus is an excellent gun for your money. Just my two cents.

Taurus is a good gun. Their quality issues are getting worked out and soon they will be a great gun. I carry a 9mm Millenium Pro nearly everyday. At the range it is flawless and has never had a hiccup with any type of ammo. I'd recommend one, the lifetime warranty tells you that they have faith in their own product.

I've seen a Taurus auto shake it's rear sight loose more than once. I've also seen cylinder lock-up issues with their revolvers.

    Taurus...as good as a S&W? [:0]

    That's BLASPHEMY!!!![:(!]

I'm just one of the nuts in the gallery....speaking his mind. [:D]

I figured somebody was gonna end up saying it [:D] I've put 4000+ rounds through mine, and it's as good as the day I bought it. Most of the Taurus guns I've handled and shot have been nice. I'm not saying they're BETTER than the Smith, but I think they're equal. If I wasn't so poor myself, I'd buy Smiths just to keep American workers in jobs. As it is, I AM the American worker that's lost his job [V]

I have a Taurus 99 9mm that I have put about 30,000 rounds thru in the last 10 years. I bought it used for $250. The rear sight broke during an IPSC competition about 8 years ago and I sent it to Taurus and had it back in 7 days with a new rear sight. They have a life time warrenty. I use this pistol in IDPA competition as well. I recently bought one of their new PT1911s and have really been impressed by the quality and features for less than $500.

Taurus revolvers are better quality than the current S$W's. Taurus semi autos are comparable to a Beretta, although not as nicly finished. [:p]

S&W's quality has'nt kept up with their price increases.I bought the Taurus Laseraim package in 89 and have yet to find something dislikable about the 92.I've had a # of 29's,27's 17's,617's and will buy more but not any of them will be new.I would buy a new Taurus before I'de buy a new S&W
