Any idea of when my ex-police officer gun was made? It is a Colt Official Police .38spc. The serial # 871004 and it wears a 4 inch barrel. You guys have been so helpful in the past I just had to find out this info because I love the gun. Thanks in advance

I came across a Colt Official Police, 6" blue, sn637xxx (pre-war), wood checkered grips. The words "Heavy Barrel" are under the Official Police .38" markings. The "Heavy Barrel" is between crosses. I haven't seen the "Heavy Barrel" making on any others. However, I have seen it on a Police Positive.

There are no other issue markings.

Any info on the "Heavy Barrel" is appreciated.

    Thanks

I found an engraved Colt Official Police .38 SN T5522xx recently and picked it up. I know engravings can enhance the value or detract from it. Very nicely engraved on barrel, cylinder, frame, basically all over the gun. Excellent condition (98-99%). No cylinder mark but no box. On bottom of frame between the stocks, it says P.I.P.P. No. 11. Anyone know what PIPP No. 11 means, just what is it and how many were made? With my luck, it means Poor Idiot's Piece of Poop. I got it cheap enough so it really doesn't matter. But am curious as to whether I have something of collector value or not. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I have an opportunity to purchase a "mint condition" unique (at least to me) .38 caliber. This gun is absolutly perfect! It has fancy engraving everywhere in the bluing, and pearl grips with an eagle carved into them. I have been on several sites to look up the serial number, but cant find it. The serial number is only 4 digits (73xx). The seller bought the gun from an estate sale many years ago, and has no info on it. I would like to make him a fair offer on it. Writing on the gun includes; Colt Official Police 38-200, NP .38 .767 4 tons, Colt's PT FA MFG Co Hartford Conn USA.
Pat'd Aug 5,1884, July 4, 1905, Oct 5, 1926. The initials MG are on an emblem. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    I have a Colt Official Police serial # 826769.
It has a 6"BBL, Bakelite grips and a lanyard loop, it has been reblued (pretty fair job for a gun that was edgy to start with.).What is it worth ? I can supply pix.
