I have been thinking about purchasing a Ruger pistol. In the past, I have fired several different types of these and found them to be OK. I am interested in the opinions of shooter for this platform. Which on is best for the money - etc. Thanks

What kind of "pistol"? Revolver or semi-auto? What caliber and for what purpose (self-defense, target shooting)?

You could roof a house using nothing but a Ruger to drive nails.

The blackhawk is one of the best single actions out there. I have five and love them.

My only experience with Ruger handguns is the single action(Single Sic, Blackhawk,Super Blackhawk) and I think they*re great. As stated it depends on the use. The single actions are great for hunting or plinking ,but not the best choice for serious target shooting.

    I have 2 Ruger Standard Autos .22lr, a 4" & 6", 3 Blackhawks in .357, .30 carbine and .45 LC/ACP, 2 Bearcats, 2 Super Single six's in .32 and a Vaquero in .44 mag.I have shot thousands of rounds out of these guns.

They are all excellent guns. Well made, accurate, and affordable. What do you want it for and what caliber would you like?

Dad has a P85MK2, the precursor to the P89. Eats any ammo and shoot pretty tight groupings for a combat pistol.

I have a P89DC (9mm). It is ugly as hell, but dammit, it is flawless when it comes to accuracy and taking pretty much any ammo you can shove in it.

I also have a Super Blackhawk (.44 mag). The only thing that required a change was the wooden grips were taken off and a decellerator grip was put on it (the wood grips are too small and will literally take the skin off your hands when you shoot). Highly accurate, awesome, and fun to shoot.

    I have several self loaders:
Ruger KP-90DC - excellent reliability, a little big but one of my favorite .45 ACP's. Accurate in spite of not the best trigger in the world.

Ruger 22/45 - very accurate .22 right out of the box

Ruger standard model .22 - my first ruger, does all you could expect.

Ruger Super Red Hawk .44 magnum. The local gun shop smoothed the trigger out a bit and I topped it with a 2X Swift scope. I bagged my first deer this year with it from 65 yards. It shoots as good for me as my S&W model 29.

Ruger is still one of the best values out there and still American made. Everyone should have a Ruger Mark II, 22/45 or some other make of .22 auto loader. Any of the P-series would be a good pick for home/car self defense. Blackhawks,Redhawks for hunting.
