AR-15 Carbon Fiber Upper

I'm looking for an upper receiver with low rail, no forward assist, to go on an aluminum lower. I see the carbon fiber ones for sale on GB and am wondering if anyone has any experiance with these? Are they sturdy/ durable enough? I am not concerned about weight, they are just about $40 - $50 cheaper than a metal one.

I would pass on the carbon fiber upper. Who know's where these are coming from. At one time Carbon 15's (carbon fiber AR-15 type rifle) were made by Professional Ordnance. Those carbon-15's were jamamtic junk. Bushmaster has since picked up the line and had to change a bunch of things to get them to work properly. Looking at the Bushmaster catalog, I don't see that they are selling just the upper receivers.

I had one of the original Professional Ordnance Carbon 15 pistols. There is a reason Professional Ordnance went out of business. I've been very pleased with my real Bushmasters. I would imagine that Bushmaster worked out all the problems with the old plastic Carbon 15's, or they still wouldn't be offering them.

Having said that, an upper being $40 to $50 cheaper than another isn't a good reason for buying it. From my experience, sometimes being cheaper can actually be a lot more expensive.

I figure you're looking at this:

I have had good luck buying AR parts from Delton.
For $90 + shipping you can get an upper receiver only that has the forward assist & ejection port cover already installed.
Stripped uppers are $75 to $78.

I assemble an AR using a complete chrome lined Upper barrel assembly from them. Turned out to be very nice.
