Just curious if anyone can help me out in understanding what I just bought? A friend asked if I was interested in this 22 rifle 46B(a) and I liked it so I picked it up. I have never saw a rifle with different sights on the end(bolt action - tube fed). "How old" any help would be appreciated. Kind of heavy too compared to other 22s' I paid 70 bucks so I know I couldn't go wrong there. It has slight surface rust that I hope will clean up....I would add pics but donot know how..

The Mossberg 46A was mfgd between 1937-38

The 46B was mfgd between 1938-45

Best I can do with my reference. I see several other 46's but not a specific 46B(a).

Mossberg .22 target rifles have quite a following in the rimfire community. Gunboards.com has a forum devoted to them. And the folks at the Rimfirecentral.com Mossberg forum are etremely knowledgable as well.

you have to work the bolt BRISKLY otherwise it will jam up. I had one and it was a great gun but would jam if you did not briskly work the bolt.
