Thinking about buying an AR15 style rifle. Any suggestions? I would like something that will accept standard mags, uppers, and so forth. Something that I can add to later when I have more money. Also, I'm trying to stay under $500.

I have decided on the .223 cal, for my 200yrd paper target shoots(just for fun.) But I have a couple of make and model to choose from.
CZ 527 carbine
Savage 16 FXP3

Ruger M77
" Mini 14
Winchester Mdl 70
Browning A Bolt Stalker
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

I'am looking to buy a .223 rifle for varmint hunting.
I was looking at 2 guns the remington model 700 bdl, and the browning a-bolt composite stalker. Any opinions on which is better, or if something else is better. I don't want to spend more than $800

I have two of the rifles on your list -- the CZ and the Ruger Mini-14. Of the two, the CZ is by far the most accurate. It has a terrific single-stage trigger. The Mini is a great little plinker, and I can hold a group to the size of a pie plate at maybe 75 to 100 yards, tops. When it comes to fit and finish, the CZ wins, hands down, in my opinion. (Of course, you can't load a 30-round mag in a CZ ... ;-)

Have you considered an AR-15 rifle in a target platform. The aftermarket supply is overwelming. You can make one heck of a target gun.

I have a Stevens 200 in .223 that shoots half inch groups with 55 grain Sierras in hand loads.Not bad for a $250.00 rifle.

+1 on CZ, dont take advice from nyforster, dont get an ar15

Just for giggles I'll mention either a TC Contender or an Encore. That way, when you want a new caliber its just a couple hundred bucks for the barrel...

Go with a cz. Very nice triggers and well build guns. Like iwannausername encore is a great choice.

If you want to spray bullets for the fun of doing so then go ahead and buy the mini-14, if you want to shoot sub one inch groups at 200 yards you need to buy a quality bolt rifle. Here are a few examples:
