Wolf, I always pattern my gun before the start of the match,at home.I use the same distance that is at the match.I can have my gun filling the paper target full of pellets in a consistant pattern using the Win.AA.I get to the match two hours later ,where they shoot the Federal Top Gun shells and can't hit the broad side of a barn.I then bought a box of top guns to pattern at home with.I had it looking pretty good, got to the match and couldn't win a round. This time the only difference was home pattering was done during the day,and the match is at night.Could a difference in temperture effect how it patterns?

Some shotguns pattern better in cold weather than in hot weather.yes temperture can make a difference in the way a shotgun patterns.hot, cold, even dryer climates.also if you look on a box of shotgun shells you will see a lot number.you can shoot the same type shells that they do at the match, but your shells may have a different lot number than theres.yours will shoot a little different.some shoots have a warm up round, where you can check your shotgun with there shells.some boxes you may put 30 or 40 shot in the target, and another box, same type shell will throw more 50 or 60 shot in the target..
