Mossberg 3000?

Apparently there were made by Howa in Japan for Mossberg and sold a police riot guns. They had synthetic speedfeed stocks and 18" barrels.

Can anyone tell me more about them? Were they just a Japan made version of the Mossberg 500? Are 500 parts interchangable with them? Do they have a good reputation for reliability? Anyone know the timeframe they were produced?

Updated: I found out they are the same as the S&W 3000 and then Mossberg picked them up. Looks like they are an 870 clone. Seems like they have a good reputation for reliability. Will 870 parts work in them? I have a chance to buy a police trade in for $185. Does that sound like a decent price?

Thanks,
Wuchak

Actually these were parts bought and assembled by Mossberg when S&W got out of the shotgun game. These are Japanese made, but they are their own design. Parts will interchange with the S&W 3000 and the earlier S&W 1000P, not the 1000 auto. I don't remember these having speed feed stocks on them, but I have seen some people fit Remington 870 stocks on them successfully.
