I noticed some crazy prices paid for so called PRE BAN era Springfield M1A's that have mostly or all USGI parts. Are those rifles really that much more desireable? Better?

Most shooters (including myself) feel that the earlier M1As are much more desirable than the later rifles, which often use out sourced parts rather than USGI and seem to show a little less attention to fit and finish. The bayonet lug is pretty much a useless feature on what is suppoed to be a target rifle, but the rifles look nealry naked without them. I consider my own NM M1A, which I ordered over 20 years ago, to be outstanding and the newer rifles just don't seem to be able to match it.

I wouldn't trade my 20yr. old NM M1-A for two of the new ones.
