I just inherited a 7mag and wanted to get some work done on it to make it a solid shooter. Does anyone have any recommendations of a good gunsmith around Austin?

Try Steve Halladay 512-251-5457. He is NW of Pflugerville. He specializes in long range rifles. He is also on the Stag Arms dealer web site. This guy is very specialized but supposedly is very good. he has his own shop and is not tied to any gun store.

Hill Country Rifles just down I35 in New Braunfels, just off the freeway.

I'd head over to McBride's gun off of Lamar. They've been around a long time. I'm pretty sure they have a house gunsmith, but if they don't or if he doesn't specialize in what you need they can point you in the right direction.

McBride's will separate you from your inheritance in the process.

Swapgut is right about McBrides, good but expensive. You might want to try:

    Don Loucks Firearms
    Cedar Creek, TX 78612
    512-308-1801

I live in Bastrop and he's my FFL transfer. Very resonable and knowlegable gunsmith.
