What is the difference between the standard 69/69A and the match target rifle? Is it the aperture sight? If so is it the winchester 97 listed as standard or does it include all the options that were available? Mine has the winchester 80 aperture sight on it. As always thanks for all your time and knowledge.

If memroy serves, the Match Target Rifle is chambered (marked) for 22 Long Rifle only versus S, L, & LR.

Winchester introduced the "Match" and "Target" (two different variations of the 69A, which in advertising was always referred to as the "69" -no "A") in 1941, then stopped production until after the war. The Match and Target differed only in the sighting equipment supplied; the Target had the Winchester 80A rear and the 93 blade front and the Match was supplied with the much more expensive Lyman 57E rear and the 101 front. Neither rifle was marked Match or Target, but both had caliber markings that excluded short and long; only .22 l.r. was on the barrel. Other than the later Junior Target Shooter's Special, these were the only 69(A)'s that came standard with a sling. These two variations were dropped from the line in 1954. Keep in mind that unless a 69(A) meets the qualifications listed above, it is not a Match or Target.

and that it is still a "69" which is not one of the better grade winchesters 22s and is more a "price point" shooter/plinker than a collectable target grade type Winchester 22 no matter what type of sighting device Winchester threw on it >>>>

The match and target 69 models don't have a rear dovetail cut on the barrel

    Dang this is fun!!
I just took a look at (4) 69A's I have access to and here is a short form of what I found:
1.W80 rear st., no bbl. dovetail, bead on ramp front st.
Model 69A, .22 short long and long rifle (barreled action)

2.W80 rear, no bbl. dovetail, blade front (no ramp), Model 69A, .22 long rifle, no sling swivels.

3.W80 rear, no bbl. dovetail, hooded bead front, no sling swivels, .22 short, long and long rifle

4.W80 rear, no bbl. dovetail, ramp bead, grooved receiver, no sling swivels, chrome trigger guard and trigger, Model 69A, 22 S, L, or LR

IIRC the W80 rear sight is a piece of bent over flat bar with 2 screws for mounting to the rear of the receiver and a rectangular aperture that takes the peep aperture. Correct?

    ochoco and merrbarb:
Lookin' thru some old auctions, one of which was for a 69A and the seller furnished some good pictures of this rifle which has what might be the 57E rearsight, a replaceable insert front sight, no barrel dovetail, 2 sling swivels, and the .22 S,L,and L.R. marking.
It also had a box which might be original. Tried to email the buyer and the seller but system doesn't allow it.
    The auction # is: 150432991.
    Give it a look.
