Thought I was pretty well versed on Chilean contract guns, and own about a dozen various examples of Czech and German manufacture, but I am confused on thiso ne. Methinks either this seller or myself is confused...help me out on this one if you could please?!

He got it totally wrong. It's a Model 1916 Spanish Short Rifle. The marking on the receiver has been defaced, it should be Oviedo as the previous poster noted.

By the time you pay shipping and transfer fees, ( unless he will send it to a C & R ?). It's going o be over $300. That's kind of pushing it value wise. Spanish rifles aren't big buck collectors items unless they are arsenal original unscrewed with, far as I'm concerned.

Thanks; thats what I thought. I don't remember a "Spanish" contract! Too bad it's so sanded down as it IS a neat carbine in it's own right. Have not seen one with the original rear sight in some time. What would you think it's value to be? Does he at least have the price close?

EDIT #1: Thanks Rufe...sorta what I thought. Too bad the wood is that far gone as it would be the only Spanish gun I would own, and would have made a nice addition to my Carbine collection! Guess I shouldn't consider buying everything I think is unique/misidentified! It has worked well for me in the past, but not this time I fear! Thanks again...

I'd say it is steep. If it were in a bit better shape it might go for that, but with wear and a refinishing, I'd not pay more than $150-$175 for it. Maybe $200 if in a jolly mood.

IMO, the seller has done this by mistake way to blatant to attempt to dupe someone in this manner.

I have sent him a message stating it is not a Chilean but a Spanish Mauser and offered some reference suggestions to verify that fact.

The 2 guns are very similar in appearance but if I remember correctly the Chilean had a shorter rear site (besides very different crest and side receiver stampings).
