is the 6.8 rem a .25 caliber bullet?is this a good whitetail round?

    The bullet is .277 diameter, same as the .270 Winchester. If you use commercial type soft point hunting bullets it would be fine for deer. Like with any other hunting ammo/firearm though, you have to know what your doing and hit them in the right place.

    Exactly and most loadings use a 110gr or 115gr. bullet. There are some loadings at 95grs. as well. Nosler makes a 130gr. bullet in .277 and I plan on doing some experimenting with this as well. In comparison the 7.62x39 has a loading using a 154 gr. bullet as an option on the heavy end. I have some of these but have yet to test them out.

    It's probably a better deer round than the .223 but still pretty wimpy by real deer cartridge standards. I was enamored by the 6.8 in it's beginning but now I'm not sure that the 7.62x39 might do as well and is lots cheaper to shoot.
