Canadian Buyers

Gentlemen:

I've off & on listed pistol mags & gun accessories for sale on ebay.

I've always specified "US bidders/buyers only" on all of my auctions due to the fact that I'm simply unfamiliar with Canadian/foreign gun laws and quite frankly, uncomfortable with sending firearms accessories to a foreign land that's run by a bunch of anti-gun Socialists & doing business with them.

I keep getting inquiries from Canadians asking me if I'm willing to make the exception by sending the mags or gun accessories to their provinces; I have said no and turned down everyone of them so far and will continue to do so.

Just for my information sake, what's going on over there? Are they not allowed to buy any firearm accessories? It appears to me that there's plenty of demand for gun parts and people are looking for parts in the US.

Fleabay will shut down your account if they catch you, and since they own PayPal, I'd not pi$$ them off if you use that as a means of commerce.

You have to declare to customs officials anything you're sending to Canada. So, while you're putting "gun magazine" on the form, you're going to find that your shipment will be rejected (or worse).

You don't have to put US Only disclaimers on your auctions. Fleabay automatically defaults to not allowing you to list any firearms parts to be shipped outside of the USA.

I get pretty torqued at this myself, because I sell choke tubes on eBay. There's no reason in the world why they can't be shipped to Canada, choke tubes are legal there, too. But, eBay won't put the listing through if it indicates the shipment will go outside of the USA.

I thought so too ! and that's why I haven't dealt with them all these time. It is just plan annoying when my email account gets flooded with inquiries when I've clearly disclosed US bidders only.

One of these days I'm gonna loose my patience & tell somebody to go pound sand & post it on ebay for everyone else to see, maybe they'll get the message then.quote:Originally posted by spanielsells

You can ship almost any parts you want to Canada. It is legal to import clips,4 or 5 shot for centrefire choke tubes etc. ammo etc
Declare what it is and through it goes.

People order from the US because it's cheaper and the selection is there.

I buy and sell alot on ebay and I know 99% of American vendors don't even realize they have selected ship to USA only.

Ebay is not limited to the USA you know. In fact one of the starters is Canadian.

Go look at some items for sale at ebay UK, Italy, Canada or anywhere not US. They all are happy to ship worldwide.

Something about Americans thinking the world ends at their border

Here are some Canadian mail order catalogues that show prices we are stuck with

This is simply not true. When you file your listing on eBay under the correct category, you CANNOT change the listing from ship to USA only to ship to other countries. THE SYSTEM WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO DO THIS AND THERE IS NO WAY AROUND IT ASIDE FROM LISTING IT IN A DIFFERENT CATEGORY.

Believe me, it isn't as if I don't want to sell world-wide. I get the e-mails all the time, too.

I'm not willing to put my PayPal account at risk in order to make a few more bucks by shipping to Canada or anywhere else.

I have to play by the rules that eBay designs, whether or not I like them is another story.

I have no dog in this hunt Spanielsells, but I have to wonder if it might not be worth while to list some of your items on GB with world wide or western hemisphere shipping. Maybe decee would help get the word around Canada if there are gun/hunting boards there. It would mean international funds (I am not sure about paypal on GB, though I have used it in the past on GB auctions). Would that change anything?

Actually you can use PayPal on GB so long as you're not selling a firearm. Parts are okay, firearms are not.

The volume just doesn't exist here at GB for what I sell (Mossberg Accu-Mag choke tubes). My price would cream the prices offered here (because I check to see if I can buy low/sell high) but honestly, I think I fare better over at Fleabay.

If you can show me where I'm wrong, I'd rather give my money to GB. But, right now I'm wanting to make money, not prove a point.

Perhaps I should have been clearer.
I was referring to general merchandise and not gun parts.
If you check Non US vendors 99% of them will ship their merchandise worldwide

These gun part restrictions I believe are US export laws, NOT Canadian import laws.
I remember trying to order a plastic ammo storage box from Cabelas which was nothing more than a glorified recipe box and the gentleman siad we cannot export anything firearm related. I just laugh at stupid US laws, the land of the free.

I can drive 50 miles to Niagara Falls NY and walk into any Walmart or BassPro or gun shop and buy anything I want and take it home. They don't ask me if I am going to export it

My message on ebay got across to Canadian bidders pretty clearly this week. I edited my listing with a new disclaimer: (1) US bidders only, I will not ship outside of continental U.S. (2) Non US bidders will not get a reply if you email me for exceptions. (3) FAQ: refer to (1). So far I have not received one email from across the border inquiring for exceptions.

Feel sorry for the situation & the gun owners in Canada (who ever is left); afterall they did it to themselves by allowing politicians to pass strict laws & tell the people how to micro manage their lives.

Now ebay has a bunch of long range vulchers trying to snag up gun parts in US. It does feels as if the real world starts at our border!!
