Anyone had any experience with these, good or bad? They have them at Walmart for $95 but that low of a price worries me. I'm wanting a new .22 and that's definately a bargain price - if they perform well. They also have a Marlin Model 60 for $125, I have one and it has performed very well for me. I like Mossberg's shotguns but I've never owned one of their rifles.

Hi, last Christmas i got a Mossberg 702. Works like a wounder, but over the year from extensive use i have some powder build up in the Slide and mechanism, the gun oil gets some out but turns most of it into a sludge that just sits there, now the bolt has a grainy feel to it when i cock the rifle. The problem is i cant find a way to take it apart so i can clean it manually, does anyone know of anyway to take it apart for cleaning? or would Powder Solvent do the trick?

    Thanks

honestly I would never buy a mossberg weapon. they work but they just dont have the quality. Pick up a Ruger or Marlin for the extra 30 bucks

If you want a quality .22 at a reasonable price buy a CZ 452. Extremely accurate and well made.

The first "new" rifle I ever bought was the 702 "plinkster" from walmart. I also dropped the whopping 12 bucks on 2 500 round milk cartons of .22lr and a extra magazine for a total cost of about 120. Ive put probably 5000+ plus rounds through it with not a single problem. Its a great little .22 and If it get scratched up or mangled you only paid 100 for it. I have to admit, save up a few more dollars and get a ruger 10/22. Its a much better .22 but for a beater or first gun the 702 Plinkster is a great choice. Oh...and I dont think Mossberg actually made it, they just stamped the name on it.[:)]

They do to have the quality. They have served in severe conditions without any design or manufacturing shortcomings being apparent. They are a meat and potatoes gun for the working man. Now some of the stuff they have made over seas may not be the best but I have utter faith in their pump shotguns.

The Mossberg 702 is actually made by Magtek in Brazil. I have one and it is a nice little gun. Definitely worth a C-note. It is every bit as accurate and reliable as any 10/22 I have ever owned or shot. Dicks had these on sale back before christmas for $69.99!! I should have bought about 5 to resell later. Anyway, if you like it, buy it. I do not regret buying mine and may get one for my son later on. They are a light weight gun that would work well with a small framed shooter.[:)]

I recently bought a 702 from a sporting goods store here in Austin for my son and I to do some target shooting.

We took it to a range, loaded the clip and the 1st round wouldn't load, nor would any of the rounds from the clip. Not sure what the part is called, but the ramp that guides the bullet from the clip to the barrel wasn't aligned properly, and every round would hang on the edge of the barrel. The only way to fire the gun was to load rounds manually.

I mistakenly assumed that even though the gun was inexpensive, they would at least ensure that the gun functioned properly.

I immediately returned the gun to the dealer who has sent it in for repair, that was over 3 weeks ago.

If I could return the gun, I would. A very unsatisfactory experience so far.

Txzaphod, This could have been a problem with the clip. They sell spares at WalMart for $9. It should not have happened with a new gun, I agree. This should have been caught by whoever test fired the gun from the factory. [V]

Mine has been flawless. I would buy another if I needed a bargain .22 semi auto.

Hope they fix it for you soon. Good luck.
