My question is if I had to shoot an intruder in my house what bullet is less likely to go in and out since my daughter sleeps at the opposite end of my house she is essentially down range. what are some good rounds for each caliber keeping that in mind. And has anyone had experience with Glasser saftey rounds. Will they tend to go trough walls with a missed shot with devastating results?

Glaser are good rounds, also Magsafe makes a swat round in 45ACP that they say wont penetrate through a wall.

You may want to Google the Box O'Truth. The site has some interesting penetration tests using actual building materials and other interesting stuff

After doing some playing with an old structure on a friends property up north a here. I would suggest 8 shot, low base dove loads. Using a pistol even through three to four layers of sheetrock, might not stop one. We saw penetration diagonally through a building that has been Barracks on a local fort around here. Used to have a .223 AR config rifle for home stuff, now it is a simple shotgun. If they hear the rack and don't backtrack well would guess the next decision is on them. .45 acp and .40 S&W were stopped most times by two walls, outside with sheet slate and an interior wall. One or two changed direction and went a consisderable distance through this old structure. While it was abandoned and was pretty weathered, I was pretty impressed on the amount of stuff that went all the way through.

A short barrelled shot gun with #6 birdshot would be what I'd use. Also makes an excellent club if it gets that far. Birdshot won't over penetrate like buckshot, pistol or rifle rounds and makes a very nast wound. Even if they were waering body armor, it will at the least knock them off their feet.

Tests by the manufacturers & gun magazines certainly seem to indicate that Glaser & Magsafe are unlikely to pass through a wall with enough force to injure anyone. But, real life accounts are rare; LEA's never use them, & it's difficult to get ammo detail out of the police or newspaper report.

I HAVE been on many scenes where solid bullets penetrated several walls, sometimes ending up in a neighboring apartment. So, I think that you are smart to be concerned about this.

The best gun to use is the one you carry on your person when you go out at night.

But, in the same situation as you, I chose a different approach: I had a perimeter alarm system professionally installed.

After reviewing and looking at the situation and a little walking it is in my considered opinion that if you aim at the chest the bullet should pass over her if she is sleeping by a foot or two.... unless the bed is very tall... But why in the world would you miss... practice and rehearse the scenario until you know you won't. You miss and you may just kill your entire family as you may not get a second shot....Just a thought!!!
