Assume the barrel is for either a 1100 Rem or 870 rem shotgun,12ga
2-3/4". Every rifled slug barrel when married with the base shotgun like a certain mfg's slug. There is no "BEST". My suggestion is to purchase a box of the Sabot ammo from each mfg.and test fire at 50 yards for group, thereby finding out which is best for your shotgun.
Is this the cheapest way to go? NO,if your looking for the best in your shotgun this how it works. I have done this exercise with Rem.,Benelli, winchester and others. They all like one better than the other but it is your call on how much you want to spend and how small you want the group to be at 100 yards, Overall my most consistant groups have come from the Hornaday 2-3/4"sabots.Both in 12ga and 20ga.......Good luck-chart your results.

Absolute agreement with Stilwater. I have buddy with same set up as me. His likes brand x, mine likes another. For me, the remington 2 3/4" buckhammer in my 870 12 ga. Can overlap 3 shot groups on bullseye at 100 yds. (yes, bench, bbl supported on a bag) I also found my gun likes a clean, clean bbl. After 6-8 shots they start walking. Take your time with it. Good luck.[:)][:)][:)]

Thanks guys. Should have mentioned 870 Remington could go 2 3/4 or 3" so far having mixed results with brands...

Anyone using Hasting sabot loads with any success?

    wpage,

I will agree with the posters at this time, that you need to find the one that is best for your gun. It is not only like that with the shotgun, but ANY rifle or handgun also.

However, I will add this with the rifled shotgun barrel's. Most of them do not like rifled, foster type slugs...or they do, for the first 3-5, then the rifling starts getting filled up with lead. The only rifled barrel that I seen that actually likes the foster slugs is the Hastings. They have shallower lands and groves, and are a bit wider too...much like the older Ballard style rifling used with black powder and lead bullets. But there comes a time when they will lead up too.

...right tool for the job. Rifled slugs in smoothbore barrel. Sabot slugs in a rifled barrel. [;)][;)]

Seems you have to play around. I shot some hornadies they were pretty good and donated the one flyer out of 5 to me. Come deer season that wasn't the case.

Some one said something about a break in. I don't go to that church, but it might have some truth.

In the end it is a experiment you have to take up.

I sold a case of Hastings 2 3/4 Sabots for his 1100 with a Hastings rifled barrel. He said they were what it shot best.
Verney-Carron, the maker of the barrels is still in business. The web site is www.verney-carron.com
Check with them about ammo. I have one case of 3" 12ga. left.
