1891 ARGENTINE FRONT SITE DOVETAIL?

I was told by Gunsmith that the military front site could be swapped with one that used to be made with fine bead. They are no longer mfg. What is size dovetail? Can anything be altered? This fine bead replacement site made the Rifle right on at 100 yards, rather than the Military one that's made to print at 300 meters. Advise?
Thanks

try midway or brownells, they have a 'tall' front sight for the mausers. not nesessarily a 'fine' bead but you can alter it. The mauser dovetail is smaller than the std. u.s. type (3/8", 60 deg.), lyman used to make these but they are long out of 'print'.
